Flotation

The Basics

Flotation

Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is a physical water treatment process that removes suspended matter in general and in water treatment plants removes the flocs generated in the flocculation process, which by now contain the particles and colloids (the colour and turbidity) from the water. This removal is achieved by dissolving air in the water under pressure and then releasing the air at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank or basin. The released air forms tiny bubbles which adhere to the floccs causing the suspended matter to float to the surface of the water where it may then be removed by a skimming device.
